MIT researchers have observed the exact moment when human life begins—the moment of fertilization. This moment, or “on switch,” beautifully resembles “structured patterns rather than chaos, resembling mathematical proportions seen throughout nature — in spirals, plants, shells, and even galaxies.” (Discovery Science). Science agrees with what the Bible has always said. Life begins at fertilization, or what scientists call “Time Zero.” “For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb... Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.” (Ps. 139:13, 16). There is another “Time Zero” every human being experiences—the moment he or she dies and stands before God to give an account for his or her life. “And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment” (Heb. 9:27). Someday you will die and stand before the God who created you. He will judge you according to the law He has written on your heart (don’t lie, steal, take God’s name in vain, murder, look with lust, etc.). Since everyone has sinned against God (Rom. 3:23), He will find you guilty, with the just punishment being eternity in hell. God has made only one way for you to be forgiven and to receive the gift of eternal life. God the Father sent His Son to earth in the person of Jesus Christ—truly God and truly Man, without sin. He lived a perfect life and then died a death He did not deserve on a Roman cross, for those who would believe in Him (Jn. 3:16). Three days later He forever defeated sin and death when He rose from the grave (1 Cor. 15:3-6).
