Did you find the mistake? The word "you" appears twice. How many times did you read it before you saw the error? Such a simple mistake, so easily made, illustrates something about the human heart. We give ourselves the benefit of the doubt because we think weÍre too smart, too sophisticated to be wrong. We think ourselves wise, even when weÍre easily fooled. The Bible says, ñBe not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord, and turn away from evilî (Prov. 3:7). One who is truly wise is one who fears God and turns away from evil. The opposite is also true. In GodÍs eyes, the one who has no fear of Him and loves evil is a fool. Do you love evil? Do you lie, steal, harbor bitterness or hatred in your heart, take GodÍs name in vain, or engage in sexual immorality without a care that you sin against God? Because God is good, when you die, He will judge you according to His law. If you have broken GodÍs Law (lying, stealing, hate, lust, selfishness, blasphemy, etc.), He will find you guilty and punish your sin, with the consequence being eternity in hell. Your only hope is to turn from your sins, turn toward God and, by faith alone, receive Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. Jesus Christ„fully God and fully man, yet without sin, voluntarily shed his innocent blood and died on the cross, taking upon Himself the punishment you rightly deserve for your sins against God. Three days later, He forever defeated sin and death when He rose from the grave. Receive forgiveness and eternal life. Be not wise in your own eyes. Turn to Christ and live.
