Imputed righteousness separates Christianity from all other religions. Every other world religion teaches that man can work to merit God’s favor. The Bible teaches that God has completed the work required for man to be reconciled to Him. Imputation is the teaching that by Jesus living a life of perfect obedience to all of God’s commands and substituting Himself for sinners on the cross, those who trust Christ by faith alone have His righteousness imputed (credited) to them. For our sake he made Him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God. Through the fall in the garden of Eden, the sin of Adam has been imputed to all men, and men sin because of the nature inherited from that first man. The penalty for sin is eternal death and torment in hell. When the Bible speaks of man, it says things like, none is righteous, no, not one. The Apostle Paul said; “I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For His sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith.” Repent (turn from your sin and to God) today and trust in the sinless life, death, burial and resurrection of Jesus that you might be counted righteous in Christ.
