If you spend much time at all watching Christian television, you might think that it is God’s will for all of us to be financially wealthy and physically healed. Most of the world’s most popular preachers present the Gospel as little more than a way to have “Your Best Life Now.” This may sound enticing, but it is not the true Gospel. The Bible is full of people who loved the Lord and served Him faithfully but were poor and sick. Elisha, Timothy, the Apostle Paul, Moses, David are just some of God’s faithful servants who were sick. Our focus should not be on this life, but on the life to come. Where will you spend eternity? Are you like most people who think they will go to Heaven because they are good? The Bible teaches that only God is good (Mark 10:18; Romans 3:10-11). All of us have broken God’s laws, the Ten Commandments. We have all lied, stolen, taken God’s name in vain and looked at others with lust. Just like when we break laws on earth a penalty must be paid, when we break God’s laws a penalty must be paid. The wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23). If we die in our sins, we will spend eternity in Hell because we have sinned against the eternal God. Our supposed good works will profit us nothing (Isaiah 64:6). The Good News of the Gospel is that God loves you and has made a way for you to escape His own wrath. God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to this earth. Jesus, the God-Man, lived a sinless life and willingly laid down His life on the cross. His perfect sacrifice satisfied God’s perfect wrath. He was then bodily raised from the dead, proving Himself to be Who He said he was, God in human flesh. If you realize you are a sinner and you grieve over your sin, cry out to Him and confess your sinful state. Repent of your sin and place your complete trust in Jesus Christ and Him alone. There is salvation in no one else (John 14:6). If you come to Christ in godly sorrow over your sin and trust Him, He will save you. Your best life will await you in Heaven.
