“Faith” doesn’t save anyone. Only Jesus saves. The message of the gospel declares that all who repent and believe can receive the gift of salvation from their sins, by the grace of God, through faith in Christ. Faith is only as good as the object it is placed in. If you trust in an idol, even an idol called “Jesus,” your misplaced faith has no power. The Apostle Paul warned: “Do not be idolaters, as some of them were; as it is written, ‘The people sat down to eat and drink, and stood up to play’” (1 Corinthians 10:7). Paul is referencing Exodus 32. The Israelites worshipped a golden calf. They called it by the name of the LORD. But it wasn’t the LORD. It had no power to save them from the wrath of the living God. The gospel invites us to turn “to God from idols to serve a living and true God, and to wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, that is Jesus, who rescues us from the wrath to come” (1 Thessalonians 1:9-10). Don’t be deceived: a great hindrance to people truly believing in Christ today is not that they’ve never heard of Him but rather that they’ve heard so many different versions. Look to the Scriptures to find who Jesus truly is. “Do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world” (1 John 4:1). The living Christ, who died for sinners and rose again on the third day, has ascended to heaven. He will return in glory. Turn away from everything else and put your faith in Him. He alone can save.
