Freshly fallen snow is beautiful. Perfectly white and clean. When snow begins to mix with dirt it becomes dingy and unclean. It is impossible to cleanse the snow of the dirt. The Bible declares that we have made ourselves filthy because of our sin. It is impossible for us to cleanse ourselves. Instead of honoring God in everything, all have sinned and done what is right in their own eyes. The wages for sin is death. God’s Word teaches that no liar, thief, covetous person, or blasphemer will enter Heaven. God’s goodness and justice guarantee that all sin will be punished. Because of our multitude of sins, the Bible says we are storing up wrath for ourselves on the Day of Judgment. While these declarations may seem harsh, they are actually loving because God is good, merciful, and kind. God declares the judgment in advance because He does not want any to perish in Hell (2 Peter 3:9). In a demonstration of both His justice and His love, God sent His Son Jesus to reconcile sinners to Himself. Jesus lived a sinless and perfectly righteous life. Jesus willingly laid down His life as a sacrifice for sin, dying under the wrath of God on the cross. Jesus offers to wash away all our unrighteousness and clothe us with His perfect righteousness if we will repent and turn to Him in faith. Through Christ, the stain of our sins can be washed white as snow (Isaiah 1:18). Jesus proved His authority to forgive sins by His resurrection from the dead on the third day in fulfillment of the Scriptures. A day of wrath is coming. God has lovingly provided one way of salvation. Jesus is risen from the dead, seated upon His throne in glory, and coming again to judge the world. He is willing and able to save all who come to Him in faith. Repent and believe the gospel today. Tomorrow isn’t guaranteed.
